The Open Masters Handbook – v.0.3
The first version of an Open Master’s Handbook was created to be used by the first group that begin the Open Master’s Program in the US in September, 2012.
Much has been learned and much has changed since we first wrote this Handbook in the summer of 2012. It is being currently being updated for re-release.
We invite you to share any thoughts, questions, or ideas you have by email.
P2PU and the Shuttleworth Foundation made writing this handbook possible by generously supporting Alan Webb to work on this project in their Popup office in Berlin this summer alongside some other folks doing very exciting work at the forefront of open learning. Alan used the opportunity not just to write, but also to interview and research many similar programs in the world- whether institutional or self-directed- and to distill whatever inspirations or common insights he could from those programs. This draft reflects the cumulative output of that research process and feedback or ideas from an amazing group of people from Knowmads, Ashoka U, Hub DC, Mycelium, Think Outword, Knowledge Commons DC, KaosPilots, Transformative Action Institute, Team Akademie, DIYU, the Uncollege movement, Making Good, Life Entrepreneurs, the Future Project, Katie Dobb, Gosia Winter, Tania Zuur, Blake Boles, Martin Cadée, Lauren Higgins, Weezie Yancey-Siegel, Anya Kamenetz, Gifford Pinchot, Ahrash Bissell, Shafeen Charania, Luke Barbara, Laura Sheinkopf, Adam Horowitz, Spud Marshall, Rachel Thor, Eric Sauder, Michael Williams, Marien Baerveldt, and many others.
